As some of you know, @calgaryartsdev had graciously supported me in my endeavour to gain the skills to sign paint and gild (with gold). I'm learning through a master, @davesmithartist and it's been so fun and expansive in my understanding of mirrors and light. One of the most devastating things I've learnt is that you actually have to wash away some of the beautiful gold (23ct in this case) after backing up what you want to remain. So many people find this wasteful but that is part of the process and honestly its worth it, there is nothing like the finish of gold on glass and I'm excited to start on my own designs and share them with you all soon.

Hello! It’s officially a new year, both Gregorian and Lunar, so I thought I’d reintroduce myself. I’m Ashley Bedet, (pronounced like Bed-ETTE). I’m a visual artist based in Mohkinstsis (Treaty 7) aka Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I make site and situation specific work that is often sculptural, but not always. I have a real love and devotion to materials and their lifespans beyond me. My work is slow and purposeful. There is a lot of ‘content’ in this heavily cannibalistic visual culture, (case and point this platform), and I’m not really interested in adding further content for the sake of being prescient, I’d rather slowly take my time and really work it out so that what I have to offer you, the world, whoever, is something that took energy and thought and care. It just takes time, and I like that, the work mutates less into thingness and more into process… which is how I like to invite people into my work. I am pretty interested in the subject of persistence in all its various forms and permutations, and how my incessant failures lead to much more interesting avenues than I first planned, for the most part. I like fancy strawberries, a cat named Jackson, anime, sunlight, the moon, this planet, and speculative fiction. I studied art at Emily Carr, NSCAD University and Gerrit Rietveld Academie. I hope you had a good sleep and have clean drinking water.

Kate Barss (@katesharks ) is both a talented writer, a funny and genuine person, and also probably was really chill when I walked up to her on the Banff Centre sidewalk, told her I liked her story from the open readings, invited her to open studios, and probably asked of we could be friends. Now my funny little moons have had the honor of participating in one of her short stories published through @catapult .

@fionn000 and I made this book that encapsulates the foundation and beginning of our collaborative project, A Three-Body Problem. It's amazing and wonderful that we got to do this and it would not have happened without the help and support of; @thebows_yyc @blank_cheque @voice___memos @naataaashaaaaa @opulent_beige .
